Profile

Dietmar Hübner was born in 1968 in Solingen, North Rhine-Westphalia. Between 1989 and 1993 he studied physics and philosophy at the University of Bonn. He graduated in physics at the University of Cambridge (M.Phil., 1995), and returned to Bonn to obtain his diploma in physics (Dipl.-Phys., 1995). Under the supervision of Hans Michael Baumgartner and Ludger Honnefelder he undertook a philosophical dissertation project on the relationship between decision theory, the philosophy of history and ecological ethics (Dr. phil., 1999). He qualified as a professor with a thesis on distributive justice (habilitation, 2007).

From 1999 to 2010 Dietmar Hübner worked as a scientific assistant at the Institute of Science and Ethics in Bonn (Institut für Wissenschaft und Ethik, IWE). His main tasks were the development of research projects in applied ethics and the editorial supervision of the Annual Journal of Science and Ethics (Jahrbuch für Wissenschaft und Ethik, De Gruyter publishing house, Berlin / New York). He taught philosophy at the Universities of Bonn and Cologne. He has been the Professor of Practical Philosophy, Particularly Ethics of Science at the Leibniz University Hannover since 2010.
